Pristine Smiles is a general dentistry office that provides care to children. While we can treat most of the standard issues that arise in children, there are some instances where a pediatric dentist is needed. Those can involve certain procedures needed that we do not provide, or if sedation is needed for longer procedures or for a very anxious or fearful child. While we strive to treat all children, we also do not want to scare or traumatize a child. This can lead to a lifetime of dental phobia and dental anxiety. Pediatric dentists are specially trained to provide treatment options for fearful or anxious children so that the dentist is not a scary place.
The Dr. provides exams, cleanings, fillings, and extractions for children. We will also evaluate if there is any need for orthodontic treatment now or in the future.
Your child should visit the dentist every six months for regular dental cleanings and checkups. We recommend fluoride treatments twice a year along with cleanings to keep teeth their strongest.
HOME HYGIENE
Children can get cavities just like adults can. Establishing good oral hygiene habits at a young age can help prevent future problems as they grow up.
Start brushing your child’s teeth as soon as they have their first tooth to brush. For children who cannot spit yet, a fluoride-free kids’ toothpaste is recommended. Once they are able to spit, regular toothpaste can be used.
Flossing is also a part of good oral hygiene habits, and the Dr. will discuss with you the right time to start flossing. If you notice signs of decay, contact our Plano dental office immediately.
